How to Buy the Best Used Car
This is best way to buy the "best used car" for the "best price" with the money you have to spend. Ever bought a lemon? Ever bought an "okay" car for a high price? This recipe will change that forever.
First gather up the following items: The Trader's Auto Guide, The Kelley Blue Book and The Consumer's Buyer's Guide which can be bought at any bookstore or through Amazon.com.
- Collect a list of the cars you like in your price range and area at The Trader's Auto Guide.
- Then cross the lemons off of the list per the Consumer's Buyer's Guide's repair records for used cars. What's a lemon? Any car with a bad record on electrical, transmission or motor.
- Although you were able to find many cars in your area and price range, double check their prices against the going rate at The Kelley Blue Book to see which ones on your list have the best prices. By this point you should only have 3 to 10 cars on your list.....
- Go grab a friend that's a mechanic and check out those cars. Go check out the best priced one, and if he likes it, dicker with the owner for a better price and buy it right then, if not go to the next car on the list.
It's possible you won't find a good deal the first week you go look, and if that happens, just wait a week and look again. That's never been my experience though and I generally buy cars under loan value.
If you don't want to go to the trouble of getting a consumer's buyer's guide you can just check out used Honda's. They are top of the line when it comes to repair records. They're extremely well made cars.
Happy hunting!
