Your content must be interesting and updated regularly or what's the point of visiting more than once? Original is even better. Original, updated regularly and interesting... those are the biggest Kings in the land.

Page Load Speed is Queen
Why on earth didn't someone explain this to me when I first started??? Until everyone has at least a DSL speed connection, no entry page should weigh more than 50K total, and no inside page should weigh more than 55k; that includes your graphics and text. Many of my pages weigh over the weight limit because they were built before I learned this lesson. And why is it soooooo important?
Because excess page weight = guests waiting
guests waiting = guests leaving
guests having to wait too long = guests leaving and never returning.
Yikes!!

Never be afraid to give away things on the net. The more you give, the more you receive is more true on the net than anywhere. Also remember this, never give away crap just to be giving stuff away. Find the coolest stuff. Give that away. Here are two of my favorite examples:

A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. Chances are whatever you think is hilarious will be hilarious to your guests. Quality counts. Never add a dull joke just because it's time to add a joke. Go to the trouble to find something that makes you choke on your cola or just wait.
TOOLS for a Happier Webmaster
I use the best tools I can find on the net and I finally collected them in the last section of My Favorite START PAGE. I built the page so we can all quit wasting hours in frustrating search mode. I believe it's the essentials that everyone, (especially webmasters) need at their fingertips. I want to encourage you to check it out and make it your own start page if you agree. Each link on those pages opens in a new window. Just close them as you go to return to the Start Page easily.The page offers some choices but in most cases I simply provide the best. For example:
- Google is the fastest, cleanest, most comprehensive search engine on the net. It's so good it's frightening.
- The TOOLS There's no faster way to add your url to the top 46 search engines, top 420 directories and 1,160 FFA pages. None. This is the fast and easy way. One word of extreme caution. When you enter your information for the FFA pages.... use a real email address, just make sure it's a seperate email account from the one you normally use. Get a new free one over at .com or something. Why? Because a ton of junk email will be sent to that address.
- quotes in the reference section is a collection of over 13,0000 quotes indexed by both subject and author.
- comics.com in the news and weather section section Last four weeks archive of sixty of your favorite comic strips: Dilbert, Peanuts, For Better or Worse, Frank & Ernest, Ripley's Believe it or not, etc.
- browser safe colors in the webmaster section is the best because it's the fastest loading color chart I've found on the net. In case you didn't know, not all colors show up right on both Netscape and Internet Explorer. These do.
