Pollinating flowers
is a repetitive job.

Yet no butterfly makes
a ‘resolution’ to
pollinate flowers.
Why not? No need.
They're hooked
on the nectar.
When more of us own
physically played,
addictive video games
we won't have to make
resolutions to work out
repetitively either.
Workout equipment
as we know it will be obsolete.
Our obesity epidemic will begin to fade.

I took this picture in the Tulsa Zoo's butterfly house last year. It is a (Battus philenor) Pipevine Swallowtail. I love the way God painted it. I love the delicate legs, the touch of fur here and there, the smudges of orange, black and white. Sometimes it takes my breath away to look at God's detail work close up like this. smiiiiiile

NOTE: If you're getting fat, if you're already fat or if anyone close to you is, don't you dare just skim this page. You read the whole thing. Then you try it out. If it works for you, you tell others. Tell as many as you can. This information will help a lot of people feel better, be healthier, and have more fun. Together, we can have a healthy impact on our world.

We all know there's an obesity epidemic on. Anyone heard any new and unusual healthy solutions for it? I'm not a member of the fast growing "Nouveau obese set." I come from at least four generations of super-sized people. I am not quite super sized, but I get up to over 200 now and then. Ugggh! It's my yo-yo topline I guess. Anyways, with my history, it's no wonder I'm always looking for something new, something that will stick for me and others.

Around ten years ago I got to wondering what the difference was between the playground equipment they couldn't keep me off of when I was a kid; and the workout equipment they can barely get healthy adults to stick with. I worried at that question like a dog with a bone until I figured it out. The difference is that playground equipment always gives you an immediate little burst of pleasure. Don't just picture it, re-live it again:

  • Climb the ladder, then you get to slide.
  • Push the merry-go-round, then jump on and ride.
  • Work your back and legs in the swing, then relax and just glide.
See? Each one gives you little immediate thrills of healthy pleasure for your work. The thrills come often and consistently. Since then I've kept a look out for something in some way similar for us as adults.

Once I tried out Konami's Dance Dance Revolution, I could see what will one day literally replace traditional workout equipment. Take my word for it right here, right now. Before it's all said and done, addictive 'physically played' computer games will eventually replace workout equipment as we know it today. [1-1-2004]

Let's be clear on what makes games addictive. It is the illusion of winning whether you're winning or not. For example, look at slot machines. You play twelve coins. The machine responds with bells and whistles, whoo-whoo... you just WON four coins!! Congratulations! You're doing great! First time I ever sat down in a casino a man walked up to me and said, "stay away from that machine right there." "Why?" "Because I just won $3000 on it, but I had to play $15000 to do it." All I could think was "No pal, you didn't win a dime. You just LOST $12000."

Nothing is more addictive than
the illusion you're winning
whether you are or not.

When you play twelve coins and get back four coins, you have not won four coins. You have lost 8 coins, no matter how many bells and whistles ring out.

Sony's Online Gaming Community, Everquest, lets you have:

  • a body you never earned
  • skills you never acquired
  • the thrill of taking risks you'd never take

How wise God is to give us bodies, skills and thrills as REWARDS for work.... like the carrot on the end of the stick to keep us healthy. But so far, Everquest provides all the pleasure with none of the work. You're only rewarded for widening and flattening your fanny, reducing your good health, decreasing your real life experiences. See? Feels like winning whether you're winning or not. Sure will be great when it at least lets you move around while you play it.

Dance Dance Revolution has the most perfect example of addictive gaming feedback in a physically played computer game. There are five different levels of missing the beat, the feedback on four of them is still praise. Imagine it. Imagine you're dancing. Listen to feedback on the five levels of missing the beat:

  • "oops" [that's for a total blunder]
  • that was close
  • You're getting better.
  • Good work!
  • Now you're getting it!!
What does it say when you hit it right on the beat? PERFECT! When you hit even three beats in a row just right it starts praising you big time, "You're doing GREAT!" "You're AMAZING!!" But the trouble with it for me (fifty year old fluffy grandmother), it's all japanese anime' and hyper electronic music. But still the addictive feedback is currently the standard by which all physically played computer games must be measured. What I wouldn't give for an audience with the Sony people right now before they start churning out the hundreds of new eyetoy games! To be most effective, the games must provide the most addictive feedback. I could help them with that.

Day before yesterday I found a playstation two computer game called eye toy you play with your whole body and it's just right for young, old and everyone in between. It's a bundle of 12 addictive computer games that all put you on the screen with the characters. It's so much fun, it makes me too tired to play qbz. I'm heavy, and I'm jumping around so much playing eye toy that I get too tired to play a mouse-played game? Yep. Now you see why it's the end of my resolutions to work out.

It's even more fun in groups. Families love it. I suggested it to my daughter. Breathlessly, she called me back three hours later..... she, her fiance and her son couldn't quit. They LOVED it. Her fiance is buying an eye toy for his parents house today. They live near each other and want to go over and the whole bunch play it together. My grandson age 10 called me at the stroke of midnight and they were still playing it. lol bet they're too sore to move today. lolol

I don't know why I didn't see the eye toy sooner. If it was advertised, it was on shows I never watch. It's not a cure-all for obesity, but it's a huge help. I know. I'm hooked on a computer game that WEARS ME OUT again and again. I know I'll be dropping weight consistently now.

Dance Dance Revolution and eye toy are only the first physically played addictive computer games. I guarantee you this, one way or another, they're going to continue making working out more fun, and more addictive. Therefore, there's no need for me to summon up my willpower and make myself workout ever again. I'm hooked on eye toy. What a relief, what a joy, what a workout. Whew!

If addictive gaming can fill up smokey rooms with frugal seniors who've made Indian Casinos their Number ONE charity - addictive gaming can those of us who are too fluffy to sweat off the pounds too.

Now you see why I want you to try it out and share it with everyone. This is such good news, the media can barely touch it. No blood, nothing depressing, so it gets shoved to the back. That's okay, that's what we're here for. You, me, all of us. It's our job to spread good news. So if you spread anything at all from my site.... spread this page and this wallpaper. Again, I promise you, together we can make a healing, healthy, fun-filled impact on our world. Come on. It feels great! They're in stock at your local Wal-Mart and just about every where that sells Playstation 2 games. smiiiiiile
