It's time to quit beating ourselves up over making mistakes. Oh sure, make new rules that prevent making the same mistakes over and over again. Certainly utilize mistakes, learn from them, that's what they're for.
But let's stop that inner dialogue that says things like: "You idiot! You dummy, what were you thinking? Haven't you got a brain in your head?" And lets start a far more productive one. "What's great about this? How can I utilize this mistake? What can I learn from it that will greatly benefit me and others in the future?" Never fail to value mistakes, they're an important part of the educational process. Use them, then lose them.
